Grow beyond your expertise

Real progress comes from seeing beyond your own expertise. Designed for experienced professionals, the ETH Zurich part-time MBA broadens your perspective through an integrated curriculum combining leadership, management, and technology. You’ll move between theory and application, between detail and big picture, and between self-reflection and organisational impact.

Curriculum

Designed for professionals living and working within commuting distance of ETH Zurich, the curriculum allows you to continue your career while learning on campus and applying what you learn directly in your professional context.

The curriculum is built around exploration, not linear progression. You explore management disciplines through rigorous research-based courses; technology as a driver of strategy, operations, and innovation; and leadership through reflection, feedback, and practice. There is no single path. Your learning journey evolves as you do.

You learn by zooming in — analysing complex problems, data and decisions. You learn by zooming out — understanding interdependencies, trade-offs and long-term consequences. This constant shift builds the ability to navigate uncertainty and lead responsibly in technology-driven environments.

Programme structure

  • Semester 1

    Semester 1

    Core courses

Your first semester is dedicated to business fundamentals – strategy, accounting, finance, entrepreneurship, economics, and organisational behaviour. This creates a shared foundation across the cohort and prepares you to engage more deeply with complex topics as the programme develops.

  • Semester 2 & 3

    Semester 2 & 3

    Electives – three
layers of choice

As you move forward, you shape your own path. The elective structure is deliberately broad, giving you access to three layers of courses.

This breadth is intentional. Your career will not follow a fixed path – and your electives should not either.

    MBA electives

16+ courses designed specifically for this programme, focused on the intersection of technology, business, and leadership

    MTEC department courses

50+ courses from the Department of Management, Technology, and Economics, allowing you to go deeper into research-led topics across strategy, innovation, and organisations

    ETH Zurich courses

Selected courses from across one of the world’s leading technical universities, for those who want to engage directly with emerging science, engineering, or sustainability challenges

  • Semester 4

    Semester 4

    Capstone project

At the end of the programme, you apply your learning to a business challenge. Working in teams under time pressure, you tackle a complex project that combines strategic thinking, technology, and leadership – and present your solutions to senior executives. It is where everything comes together.

Throughout all semesters
  • Leadership development

Running alongside the academic curriculum is a dedicated leadership programme – focused on self-awareness, reflection, and the ability to lead effectively in environments that are constantly evolving. You will find more on this in the next section.

  • Career development

Learning something new only creates impact if you move into a position where you can use it. That is why career development is built into the programme from the start – not as an afterthought, but as a practical thread running through your two years with us.

Alumni community

From the moment you join the programme, you become part of a community that extends far beyond your cohort. Build lasting relationships with classmates, faculty, industry leaders, and graduates who have shaped more than 45 years of management education at ETH Zurich.
